Fire Near Bridgeport Triggers Strong Response

Staff Writer

A fire that started near Bridgeport on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 12, called the Eagle Fire 2, is located about a mile south of Buckeye Campground and is holding steady at about 75 acres, according to Erica Hupp with the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center. Buckeye Campground and the nearby Buckeye Hotsprings and Buckeye Road are closed but U.S. 395 is open. Hupp said firefighters took advantage of the night's cooler temperatures and are "throwing everything they have" at the fire tonight in the hope they get it controlled before tomorrow, when a Red Flag Warning goes into effect, along with the high winds and super low humidity associated with that warning. The fire is not threatening the town of Bridgeport at this time.
