Eastside Escapes Worst of Smoke But For How Long?

Staff Writer

Wildfires are surrounding the Eastern Sierra as this graphic shows but so far, the region has escaped the worst effects of the smoke plaguing other areas, although smoke has been an intermittent issue for the past few weeks. That could change, however, as new fires continue to spark and grow in the state and with no end in sight of the deep drought that has left the state incredibly dry, even in the deep, old-growth forests of Northern California.
