The Weather Ahead This Weekend

Staff Writer

After a series of showery days this week, much warmer temperatures are forecast for the weekend and the next few days ahead, according to Howard Sheckter, a weather forecaster for the Eastern Sierra. "It looks like there may be a few isolated thunderstorms in the late afternoon but odds are pretty low for anything significant." he said in his latest forecast. "The main idea is to nudge the (high pressure) offshore ridge in this weekend for highs to reach the first of the low 80s this year in Mammoth. A few isolated thunderstorms are possible but nothing to be concerned about. Enjoy the last 10 days of spring (Summer begins June 21)." And for one more interesting weather note: "The Climate Prediction Center indicates a 9o percent chance that El Nino will continue through the Fall and an 85 pecent chance through the winter of 2016," Sheckter said in his website today, June 12. "El Nino Winters are typically wetter than normal for Southern California and statistically drier as you go north."
