Single car rollover fatality accident near Monitor Pass

A 45-year-old man from Carmel, Indiana, is dead after a single car rollover accident near Monitor Pass. According to the California Highway Patrol, a hiker who was walking along Monitor Pass road first saw the man's vehicle on June 2 located "a significant distance down a hillside."

The hiker used his cellular telephone to call 911, according to a news release. Deputies from the Mono County Sheriff's office were able to respond to the area and locate the vehicle down a hillside near the Mono/Alpine County line.

An adult male, identified as Bret T Krinn was located near the 2006 BMW 530I and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Officers from the California Highway Patrol Bridgeport Area office responded to the scene and are handling the collision investigation.

The Mono County Sheriff's Office is conducting the death investigation.

The preliminary investigation indicates the solo male occupant of the 2006 BMW 530I was driving southbound on State Route 89, near the Mono/Alpine County line.

For unknown reasons, the driver of the BMW allowed the vehicle to travel over the northbound lane of State Route 89, onto the dirt shoulder and down a steep hillside.

The collision investigation is ongoing.
