Two Gents of Verona

Sierra Classic Theatre is a local non-profit theatre company founded in 1999 with the idea of bringing high-quality art to town. Traditionally, the work of Shakespeare falls into that category. Beginning six years ago with “The Merry Wives of Windsor,” the company decided to put its own twist on the popular “Shakespeare in the Park,” setting its shows in Mammoth’s own forests instead.

This year, director Susan Dalian is bringing “Two Gentlemen of Verona” to life. This was one of Shakespeare’s first plays, and it follows the lives of, well, two young men and their ladies. In the beginning, only one of the men, Proteus, has found love, but soon after, the other, Valentine, travels to the city and meets the Duke’s daughter Silvia. One could say it is love at first sight. However, her charm captures more than just young Valentine’s eye, as becomes evident when Proteus journeys to the city as well.
The play opens Thursday, August 6th at Sam’s Woodsite and runs through Sunday, August 16th. Shows are Thursday through Sunday both weeks, and all performances start at 6:00 p.m. As is the tradition, beer, wine, and picnic food will be sold on the premises. Chairs will be provided, but all are welcome to bring a blanket or blowback chair and set up just in front of the stage. There is a $10 suggested donation.

Everyone is welcome!
