Old Mammoth hand replaces Oren Tanzer at Unbound Terrain Park

It will take a lot to replace the diabolically clever Oren Tanzer at Mammoth Mountain Ski Area’s Unbound Terrain parks, but Josh Chauver is ready to give it a try.

Chauvet, who worked as the director of the Unbound parks from 1998-2002 before leaving to pursue other interests, yesterday was named “Action Sports Brand Manager” for the resort, according to Daniel Hansen, public relations manager.

“I am very excited to be back at Mammoth working with the best team in the industry,” Chauvet says in a press release. “Over the years, I have had the opportunity to travel the world and gain a great deal of experience.

My experience, combined with the unprecedented support of Mammoth, will allow for industry changing improvements and innovation.

“Mammoth has always been my true home and I am proud to be returning.”

In Chauvet, the resort not only welcomes back a familiar face, but it gets a load of experience in the bargain.

“It will be great to have Josh back at Mammoth, said Mark Clausen, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Mammoth Mountain. “I consider him one of the leaders in terrain park building and design and he has valuable experience in actions sports marketing.

“With Josh leading the charge, Mammoth will continue to innovate and progress as one of the top parks in the world.”

Chauvet’s experience includes designing, building and managing terrain parks around the world, including Livigno, Italy; Snow Park, New Zealand; Aspen, Colo; Northstar-at-Tahoe; Sierra-at-Tahoe; Mountain High; and Kijimadaira, Japan. His more recent experience includes position Action Sports Manager at Mountain High Resort.

Tanzer, the creator of some of the most smashing pipes, jumps and rails anywhere, earlier this summer left to work for Quicksilver, the longtime partner for events at the ski hill.
