Mammoth Sierra Magazine "Winter Preview" debuts Friday, Dec. 7

With stories spanning everything from science to skiing, women on snow to a guide to Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, the winter preview edition of Mammoth Sierra Magazine is about to hit the racks

The magazine, free at selected locations and to subscribers of the Mammoth Times, is the 58th edition of the bimonthly publication. The new edition hits newstands on Friday, Dec. 7.

Featured is a mysterious cover image from the Beekley Collection of Ski Art.

Inside the magazine is a preview to what's new at Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, including a full trail map, along with Wendilyn Grasseschi's often-hilarious tale of the epic winter of 1992-93. Humorist Bump Diamond weighs in with his "Meh" list for the holidays, too.

The magazine continues its commitment to creative writing as well, with poignant poetry and essays from Mammoth and the High Sierra Eastside.

Don't miss the feature on three of our outstanding "women on snow," either.

It's not all about snow, however. The magazine looks back at the pioneering geology work of Roy A. Bailey in the Long Valley Caldera and how the USGS is using modern methods—from the air, this time—to further understand the seismology of this fascinating place.

Also on a science note, the White Mountain Research Center moves ahead with its projects high atop the third-highest peak in the Lower 48, situated within easy range of Mammoth.

It is loaded with solid magazine journalism, sure to be a keeper companion on these long, much-anticipated winter nights.
