Local families now have more access to Covid-19 relief, regardless of immigration status

Staff Writer

Ed. note: We are providing a list of some of the newest state and federal changes in a fast-changing field of options for Covid-19 relief, regardless of immigration status. This list was provided to the Times following a Mono County Board of Supervisors update on the subject earlier this month. It was compiled and translated into Spanish (BELOW) by our own Mono County Social Services Department. This is only a partial list but it has some important information in it, such as the fact that Medi-Cal benefits are once again accessible to qualifying people regardless of immigration status.

Medi-Cal is again open to non-citizens following changes to the Public Charge Rule
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said it will return to using policies in place before the 2019 Public Charge Final Rule. The US Citizenship and Immigration Services will not consider participation in Medi-Cal (except for long-term care), public housing, or CalFresh as part of the public charge determination. A reminder that medical testing, treatment and preventive services for COVID-19, including vaccines, are not considered for public charge purposes. SEE ATTACHED IMAGES FOR MORE INFORMATION.

Golden State Grant (GSG):
The GSG will provide a one-time $600 payment to all eligible CalWORKs Assistance Units. These payments do not impact CalWORKs or CalFresh eligibility or monthly benefits. The payments will be automatically sent to household. For more information, go to https://cdss.ca.gov//inforesources/cdss-programs/golden-state-grant-program

Golden State Stimulus (GSS):
In addition to the Golden State Grant, the recently enacted economic relief legislation also establishes the Golden State Stimulus (GSS), which provides a $600 or $1,200 one-time relief payment to eligible households. Residents get this payment if they receive the California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC) or file with an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). Housing issues? Local Mammoth Lakes Housing can help:
The California COVID-19 Rent Relief program can assist tenants who have unpaid rent with up to a year of relief, does not jeopardize other federal or state benefits, and will initially prioritize individuals with incomes below 50% of area median income.
Both tenants and landlords can apply. Applicants will not be asked about their citizenship, nor will they be required to show proof of citizenship. Eligible renters may also receive assistance for unpaid utilities and future payments. For more information: Make an appoint with Mammoth Lakes Housing (760) 934-4740 or IMACA 760/873-8557, for help.

Beca del estado dorado - BED (Golden State Grant):

Estimulo del estado dorado – SED (Golden State Stimulus):
