Fatal Accident North of Bridgeport

An unidentified person died yesterday afternoon, Sept. 17 in a vehicle rollover accident north of Bridgeport near a ranch known as Sario's Ranch, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The name of the driver can not be released at this time, pending verification of identity and notification of the next-of-kin by the Mono County Sheriff-Coroner.

According to the CHP, the incident occurred on Thursday, Sept. 17 at approximately 2:30 p.m., when the CHP received a report of a solo vehicle rollover collision on U.S. 395 north of Bridgeport. Multiple CHP personnel were dispatched simultaneously with Bridgeport Fire Department and Mono County Paramedic Unit #7.

Upon arrival, CHP personnel located a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee on its roof.

The preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the Jeep was traveling southbound on U.S. 395 just north of Sario's Ranch when for an unknown reason, the driver allowed the vehicle to drift to the right onto the southbound shoulder. The vehicle impacted a raised dirt culvert, which caused the vehicle to rollover and land on its roof.

Upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered that the driver was trapped in the vehicle. Mono County Fire department personnel utilized forcible entry tools in order to gain access to the trapped driver.

Mono County Paramedics determined that the driver was deceased.
