After a two-week break, the Village Championships returned on Tuesday Feb. 12, with Corey Denton making the fastest time in the first slalom races of the VC season.
Under perfect race conditions—blue skies and a fast track—some veterans, such as Laurie Carlson, Nick “Lucky” Treat, and Heidi Kanayan made it onto the course, and they did it in style.
James Tautkus said it best: “Slalom is for the disco dancers. You got to get out on the floor and move your hips. There isn’t any room for standing in the corner with your back against the wall.”
That proved true, at least for Tautkus, who turned in the second-fastest time of the day.
Corey Denton danced his way to the fastest time of the day. The course was no piece of cake and racers had to work at it. Some of the top racers didn’t finish both runs. Andie’s Flying Circus crushed it, extending its lead in the Elite Team standings, while Das Schisse Pro did the same in the Recreational Division.
The next race is next Tuesday, Feb. 19. Race organizers plan a Super G/Big G—perfect for the long-ski contingent.
The results from Tuesday’s race were:
