A heat wave in Southern California meant crystal-clear skies and warm sunny weather these past several days in Mammoth.
What a weekend to spend on the fields at Shady Rest during week three of AYSO soccer season (Sept. 25-26). The warm weather fooled us all into feeling like summer hadn’t yet blown away on a cool fall breeze or buried itself under the changing leaves.
There was extended play and excitement as AYSO organizers, led by league commissioner Stuart Brown, put on the first annual Mammoth Tournament for the U10 girls’ and boys’ divisions. Games started early Saturday morning and continued until the championship games were played late that afternoon. The Presson teams were victorious, winning both championship games. Championship winners will travel to a tournament in Carson City the weekend of Oct. 23. Boys and girls playing in the U12 division will play in the continuation of the Mammoth Tournament Saturday, Oct. 2. Games begin at 9 a.m. with the girls’ championship game scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and the boys’ championship game being played at 4:30 p.m.
Older divisions also mixed it up a bit, playing games in Mammoth and Bishop.
