Mammoth High School Principal Gabe Solorio will be out on medical leave beginning Monday, Nov. 21, until sometime in January, school officials confirmed today. Former MHS principal Mike Agnitch will take the reins as the high school's interim principal until Solorio returns.
Solorio became the high schools principal after Agnitch retired in 2009. Solorio was the middle school's principal for several years before becoming the high school principal.
Here's what the district said about the situation in a press release released the morning of Nov. 22:
"The Mammoth Unified School has announced that Mammoth High School Principal Gabriel Solorio has been granted a short term medical leave to tackle some old skiing injuries.
"Recently retired Mammoth High School Principal Michael Agnitch has been appointed as the interim Principal until Principal Solorio returns in late January.
"Mr. Agnitch is best suited for this short term assignment as he knows the staff and is familiar with the organizational structure of the school district. We are confident that he is going to be able to “hit the ground running”.
"We wish Principal Solorio the best and expect him back in his position as the Principal at Mammoth High School in fairly short order."
