On Thursday, Nov. 21, at approximately 5:45 p.m., a three vehicle collision involving a California Highway
Patrol vehicle parked just north of Lower Rock Creek Road occurred when a Mammoth Lakes resident lost control of her vehicle on the icy road and spun into the CHP vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Bishop CHP Officer R. Hudachek, 43, was in a black and white Ford Crown Victoria, parked directly in front of a disabled Toyota 4-Runner occupied by Colby Coats, 30, Mammoth Lakes, according to the CHP. The Toyota was involved in a previous solo vehicle collision and was facing northbound on the southbound right shoulder of U.S. 395. Officer Hudachek was sitting inside the patrol vehicle with the rear facing emergency lights activated in an effort to warn other drivers of the icy road conditions.
Lina Myers, 55, Mammoth Lakes, was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee southbound on
U.S. 395, in the #1 lane, entering a curve in the roadway. Myers observed the patrol vehicle’s emergency lights ahead and attempted to slow down. The Jeep was traveling at approximately 45 mph when Myers lost control due to the icy road conditions. The Jeep continued out of control onto the right shoulder where it collided with the rear of the CHP patrol vehicle. The patrol vehicle was pushed forward into the Toyota.
As a result, Myers and Officer Hudachek were subsequently transported to Northern Inyo Hospital where they were treated for minor injuries.
