Remember that 10-member family from Memphis that flew into Mammoth during the holidays? They’d spent Christmas at Disneyland, then hopped a flight to Mammoth for some skiing. Here they are at the top of Mammoth Mountain, minus two of their party, young kids who don’t ski yet.

Why the S.F. flight matters: John Eastman was at the airport this past week, catching a flight to L.A., when he ran into a passel of New Jersey club skiers who always wanted to try Mammoth. One connection to SFO, then the non-stopper to Newark. ...

By the way, Our Neighbor Walt copped a $132 round trip fare to S.F. for the Presidents Day holiday. Our Pal Norm, meanwhile, coming from S.F. to Mammoth on the same weekend, got gouged for $624. There’s something to be said for a “reverse” strategy. ...

There was exciting scanner chatter at mid-day Tuesday, when Mono County Dispatch sent out a “BOLO” alert for a pair of murder suspects who might be in Our Town or nearby. “BOLO” is an acronym for “Be On The Lookout.” In this case it was for a man and a woman in a black GMC extended cab pickup, with nickel toolboxes in the bed, front to back. Armed and considered dangerous. The woman has family connections in Mammoth and in 2008 had a Bishop address. ...

Mammoth Lakes Police Department called Profiles salon to get a “professional opinion” about how to describe a suspect’s hair-do. Stylists Penny Shaw and Judy Olson agreed, from the description, to call it a “shaved bowl.” ...

Johnny Teller’s grandmother was in the Booky Joint, combing through issues of the Wall Street Journal looking for a story about his winning the X-Games, when she learned that neighbors had dropped off two of the correct issues in her garage. She insisted on buying, anyway, for co-owner Dave Leonard’s trouble in helping her.
