Tim Alpers announces he will run for Bauer's county supervisor seat

January 19, 2012

Tim Alpers announced today that he will vie with incumbent Vikki Bauer for the Mono County District 3 Supervisor seat. District 3 includes part of Mammoth Lakes, and the communities of Lee Vining, June Lake and points north to Conway Summit.

Alpers has served as a District 3 supervisor in the past and is well-known throughout the county and the state for his trophy Alpers trout, as well as for his recent work to make the Conway Ranch area a viable trout hatchery.

"I retired from my 42-year career in aquaculture to pursue my passion for public service," he said Thursday. "Alpers Trout will continue to be stocked in the waters of Inyo and Mono Counties as I have transferred my ownership interest to my former partners, John Frederickson and Steve Brown. ... As a former Mono County District Three Supervisor, I decided to return to public life because I am once again concerned about the future of our country as well as Mono County. ...

"My vision for Mono County is that it can become a sparkling, positive example for the nation of how our government can partner with its constituencies to dispense realistic, efficient, and cost effective services. ... The keys to economic health are small business success and a competent, motivated workforce in both the public and private sectors."

Bauer announced she would run again for the seat last week.

Alpers had not yet registered or pulled papers for getting signatures in lieu of filing fees as of this posting, nor has Bauer, according to the county clerks office.

Bob Peters and Tim Fesko from District 4 (Bridgeport, Walker, Coleville, Antelope Valley and the surrounding area as well as a small section of Mammoth Lakes) have both pulled papers for getting signatures in lieu of filing fees for the seat that is currently held by Supervisor Tim Hansen.

District 2 Supervisor Hap Hazard has done the same, Hazard is currently the only candidate running for District 2.
