Still no decision on how to fill county assessor seat
There is still no conclusion as to how Mono County will fill the recently vacated county assessor seat after Assessor Jody Henning has turned in her resignation letter.
The county supervisors talked about the subject at length Tuesday, considering everything from filling the position with a qualified assistant assessor (the county’s assistant assessor, Chris Lyons, also resigned when Henning did) to holding a special election to fill the assessor’s seat.
But County Counsel Marshall Rudolph said the law doesn’t allow for the assessor position to be filled by a special election—rather, when an assessor resigns, or leaves, the board does need to appoint someone with assessor qualifications to the position.
The board will take this issue up after Rudolph investigates a few more questions the board raised. In the meantime, the county is actively recruiting for an assistant assessor position.
