New (sort of) nightclub to open in Auld Dubliner space in Village

Mammoth has a new nightclub, right where an old one used to be.

The space that was occupied by The Auld Dubliner in the Village will become a new club venue under the management of Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, according to Mammoth Mountain CEO Rusty Gregory.

The re-opening of the venue, presumably under a new name, will offer the kind of venue aimed for young singles, as did the old Hyde Lounge.

Last month, the ski area announced it would open a new restaurant, “Campo Mammoth,” in the old Hyde Spot.

The new restaurant was a $1 million takeover of a prime Village location, but knocked the nightclub crowd out of the picture.

The new club, on street level at the Village, will alleviate that displacement, Gregory said.

“We're also going to (formally) announce the opening of Auld Dubliner as a replacement for Hyde,” Gregory said, “so we'll focus on our young single market.

“We'll be taking a Hyde-like concept and we'll open it up in the space down below, so both those places will be rockin,’” he said.

The Auld Dubliner closed last year during the severe economic downturn in Mammoth caused by national and state fluctuations, and by a near-disastrous, snow-starved ski season.
