Meb gathering his rewards

April 13, 2012

Mammoth marathoner Meb Keflezighi continues to reap the rewards of his first-place finish at the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials and his placement on the U.S. Olympic Team.

Already swooped up by running shoe giant Sketchers, Citi added him to its fold this week. Citi is a part of the Citigroup companies that offer financial services to about 200 million accounts spread over 160 companies.

Citi placed Keflezighi on its ‘Every Step of the Way’ program, said a company spokesman in a press release.

“Citi will celebrate 13 U.S. athletes—working closely with U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Sport Programs—who make up Team Citi, including alumni, qualifiers and hopefuls,” the spokesman said.

It’s no wonder, really, that people are starting to glom on to Keflezighi in advance of the London Games this summer.

He is a two-time Olympian and 2009 ING New York City Marathon winner who lives in trains in Mammoth, which is emerging as a high-altitude training ground for distance runners.

“He will part of Team Citi and will support a USOC Sport Performance Fellowship in sport psychology,” the spokesman said.

The program helps Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls in their preparation for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Its focus is on utilizing cutting-edge technology and research in biofeedback, neural training, and mental preparation.
