A 47-year-old, six-year veteran ski patroller at Mammoth Mountain died Sunday when the off-road motorcycle he was driving crashed on a racecourse near Ridgecrest.

The death of Todd Adamson, of Crowley Lake, was confirmed by John McGrath, the Mammoth Mountain Ski Patrol assistant director.

In addition to his ski patrol duties, McGrath said Adamson also worked as a snowcat driver at Mammoth Mountain.

Ski Area communications director Joani Lynch described Adamson as a “great guy, loved by many.”

According to a coronor's report, Adamson died of a heart attack.

McGrath said a memorial service will be held at the top of Mammoth Mountain via Gondolas I and II at 1 p.m. on Saturday (June 2).  He said a reception will follow at the Tusks Restaurant at Main Lodge following the summit remembrance.

Adamson is survived by his wife, Cindy; mother and step father, Carol and Norm Coates; and sister and brother in law, Tracy and Dwayne Barnes.

"Todd will be missed by all," McGrath said.

So sad to learn about Todd this way. We attended high school together and he was always smiling and friendly! My prayers go out to his family~
