Mammoth Mountain promotes Cohen
As Vice President, he will oversee Human Resources
Mammoth Mountain Ski Area CEO Rusty Gregory announced this week Ron Cohen has been promoted to the position of Vice President, Human Resources and Administration.
This newly created job adds the critical function of Human Resources to Cohen’s existing portfolio of responsibilities, Gregory said in a news release.
“Ron has been promoted to this big and complex job that I believe is a perfect match for his demonstrated capacity for thoughtful, high quality work,” he said.
In May 2010, Mammoth Mountain hired Cohen as the director of governmental affairs and environmental programs. Since June of 2011, he acted as general counsel and had responsibility for the risk management department.
Cohen’s influence in the industry runs beyond Mammoth. In 2011 he was appointed to the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the California Ski Industry Association.
Cohen is a graduate of University of California Santa Barbara and Northwestern University School of Law. He was a practicing attorney from 1995 to 2002, gaining experience at a large law firm in Los Angeles and a smaller firm in Mammoth Lakes.
In 2002 he formed an investor group and raised capital to purchase Tioga Pass Resort, which the group continues to own and operate to this day.
Cohen was on-site managing partner for eight years and has hands-on experience with all aspects of the four-season mountain resort operation.
