The Mammoth Huskies basketball team, fresh off “character builder” losses at last weekend’s Whittell (Nev.) Tournament, is putting together the finishing touches before they begin play in the Desert Mountain League on Dec. 27.
If their 73-47 loss to Incline and their 71-38 loss to host school Whittell on Saturday was tough to take, their 56-48 victory against Lee Vining might have ameliorated the sting of the losses.
The bright spot in Nevada belonged to Fox Kailiawa.
Kailiawa, a senior, put up 19 points on 6-for-14 shooting against tournament favorite Incline, and hit three of seven shots from 3-point territory. Against Whittell, Kailiawa scored 19, hitting four of seven shots from beyond the arc.
Against Lee Vining, Kailiawa scored 10 points, to go along with Cole Presson’s 13 and Denis Orick’s 10.
The Huskies, under coach Robbie Presson, finish their non-league early schedule with a game this evening, Dec. 19, at Lee Vining, at 6:30 p.m., and then play Bishop on Thursday, Dec. 26.
They open league play against Antelope Valley on Friday, Dec. 27.View more articles in:
