Hot, Dry and Smoky: The Weather Ahead This Weekend

Staff Writer

Smoke from the Walker Fire buring north of Mammoth and smoke from the Rough Fire burning southwest of Mammoth will continue to affect the region this weekend, although there will also be clear days and hours, depending on where the wind is originating. The Walker Fire was at 50 percent containment last night, Aug. 20 and the Code Red Alert for possible evacuations for June Lake and Lee Vining was lifted but the fire is still very smoky. Hot, dry and breezy weather continues into the week next week, although high temperatures will drop a bit and possibly reach normal (i.e. 70s) by mid-next week for the first time in days. — WG
