U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell announced on Tuesday that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has determined that the Bi-State population of greater sage grouse does not require the protection of the Endangered Species Act.

The announcement was a decisive victory for Mono County, which lobbied hard to keep the Bi-State Sage Grouse off the list.

“It was a great day for Mono County to pull that off,” said Supervisor Tim Alpers after the decision came down.

Full details of the decision are in the April 23 print edition of the Mammmoth Times and online in the E-Edition.
