‘Critical’ fire conditions Thursday for Mammoth, Eastside

May 16, 2012

A low-pressure system will send a cold front through Mammoth and the Eastern Sierra Thursday evening, producing high winds and causing a “critical” fire danger, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

“The combination of gusty winds with very dry conditions will create critical fire conditions Thursday afternoon and evening,” the weather service said.

A Red Flag Warning (wind) will be in effect from noon to 10 p.m. Thursday, the weather service said.

Winds are expected to be between  15 and 25 miles an hour, with gusts up to 45 miles an hour.

Humidity levels are expected to be between eight and 16 percent.
