How broke can a broke town go?

Mammoth Lakes officials this week scrambled to find a response to Mammoth Lakes Land Acquisition, which last Friday offered terms of a 30-year settlement of its $42.7 million against the town.
Town Manager Dave Wilbrecht said that by mid-morning Monday, neither he nor town financial consultant Marianna Marysheva-Martinez had spoken with MLLA attorneys, nor their own.
Mammoth Unified School District’s longtime, popular drama teacher was recently given one of the district’s dreaded “pink slips,” which notify employees that they might not have a job next year.
It doesn’t have to be this way. No broadband for new customers, slow and choppy service for those that have it; the current broadband situation for much of Mono County has been getting worse every month now for half a year.
Eleven-year-old Mammoth Elementary School student Giovanni Cruz was all smiles, even though he was sitting in a dentist’s chair getting his teeth examined.

It has been a long journey for the Town of Mammoth Lakes, from the 1997 development agreement with Terry Ballas, to now, with the hammer of a $42 million judgment against the town by the Mammoth Lakes Land Acquisition company.
March 27th
The mountain community of Mammoth Lakes, California, once again showed its true spirit for the winter sport of Biathlon this weekend at the 5th Annual Mammoth Winter Biathlon. The event continues to be the largest biathlon in the United States, and runs neck and neck with Canmore, Alberta, for the title of largest biathlon in North America.
