Itâ€™s been a long, hard eight years of 60- to 80-hour workweeks, but in early December, brothers Juan and Jesus Hernandez will become the new owners of the Mammoth Pita Pit franchise.
The two Mammoth residents will take the reins from longtime owner Doug Hanna, who recently took a job in Portland with the corporate branch of the company.
The two brothers earned the right to control their own destiny the old-fashioned way: by working their way up from the very bottom of the pay scale to the top through long hours, tenacity, and a lot of nights of little sleep, Hanna said.

A proposal to bus Bridgeport Elementary School sixth-to-eighth-graders to Coleville Elementary School due to falling enrollment in the Bridgeport school was soundly opposed by most parents and is not likely to go forward in any form, said Don Clark, superintendent of the Eastern Sierra Unified School District.
A meeting regarding the subject was held on Oct. 15 he said, with about 50-60 parents attending.
Their message was clear.

A Mammoth man was arrested on Oct. 29 on an outstanding warrant as a "person of interest" in an Orange County homicide case, according to Mammoth Lake Police. According to the police, the man, Jose Cardenas Zuniga, 38, was living in Mammoth under an alias, and was arrested at his place of employment in Mammoth at about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Seniors Emilie Hodges and Stephan Haakana were named as the 2014 Homecoming Queen and King last weekend, capping Mammoth High School’s “Spirit Week” with ceremonies at Gault/McClure Stadium and at the annual Homecoming Dance afterward.
