Just when we thought everyone knew about us, more or less, here comes National Geographic, which named Mammoth among the Top 10 “emerging ski towns.” We’re not sure it that is a compliment or not. Reno’s on the list, too, although for us, it’s hard to think of Biggest Little Cityas a ski town. …
Town, county can’t agree how to solve long-term problem
Not long ago, Mono County taxpayers were sending a decent chunk of their hard-earned cash to a garbage disposal enterprise fund that was draining the county coffers to the tune of thousands of dollars a week, every week, when the recession hit the region.

Almost everything people see in almost every direction on the Eastside is part of the huge Inyo National Forest—about two million acres of granite peaks, forest, sagebrush meadows and fast-dropping creeks that water an otherwise desert landscape.
The forest stretches from the Conway Summit area south to Lone Pine, then west until it hits the crest of the Sierra.
The Affordable Health Care Act goes into full effect in January 2014 and that means big changes in Mono County
When the Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act last year, it put the county’s counties and states on notice.

The exodus of top-level managers from Mono County government appears to have stopped and at least one vacant position is close to being filled soon.
According to Byng Hunt, the chair of the Mono County Board of Supervisors, “an offer is being negotiated as we speak” for a new finance director.

Current ordinance outdated, officials say
There are no adult businesses in Mammoth, but if and when they come, their owners have to be heads up to some new rules.
Those rules are contained in a 19-page report that was delivered to the Planning and Economic Development Commission on Wednesday, March 13.

Cameras at Village are fixed; next in line is Skate Park
For those who may have a fantasy about becoming a television or film star, the Village at Mammoth or the Volcom Brothers Skate Park are offering auditions.
The only thing an aspiring actor has to do is stir up a heap of trouble at either or both venues, and the Mammoth Lakes Police Department will give him a thumbs-up or thumbs down.

Mammoth opens new $150k economic development slot
Mammoth is on the hunt for a director of economic development, in what town Manager Marianna Marysheva-Martinez calls a “very critical” hire.
“Economic development is one of the highest priorities in the town,” she said on Thursday, March 14, one day after the town’s Planning and Economic Development Commission weighed in on the job description and responsibilities of the position.

The ski and snowboard racing seasons began drawing to a close last week, with Mammoth athletes turning in one of their finest seasons ever.

The California Energy Commission committee reviewing the proposed 500-megawatt (MW) Hidden Hills Solar Electric Generating System will hold two additional days of evidentiary hearings.

We can’t wait to meet Mammoth’s new director of community development, whoever that is.
Judging by the job description, he or she will, ideally, possess superhuman powers, with an ability to juggle a minimum of 19 specific job duties and about a dozen peripheral duties.
He or she also must leap tall buildings in a single bound, and demonstrate superhuman strength, speed, stamina, invulnerability, freezing breath, super hearing, multiple extrasensory and vision powers, longevity, flight, intelligence, and regeneration.
