I am counting the toes on Fido's hind legs.
"One-two-three-four," I said. "One-two-three."

It's strange to pull up to a high school auditorium (Bishop's only performing arts space) to see a play performed by adults.
Fido is making chili. No, not really. How could a dog stand in the kitchen over a vat of chili?
Fido was aghast, but I didn’t know why.
Fans of theater and literature have been looking forward to the Writers Actors Guild “Tuesdays with Morrie,” which opened last night at Mill Creek, north of Bishop.
Fido was in a pensive mood, and so was I.
“How do you spell ‘ridiculous?’” Fido wanted to know.
I spelled it out for him.

Mammoth High School Senior Miguel Flores has won another prestigious art scholarship.
“I don’t get it,” Fido said. “As a general rule, people love dogs, so why the constant beat-down?”
“I’m not quite sure where you’re going with this.”
“I’m talking about dog talk by humans. Have you ever heard the expression ‘Sick as a cat?’”
“Nope,” said I. “Your point is well taken.”
