We don’t like it, but the reality is that the arrest of two of our citizens on child sex charges (P.1) is just too juicy for most of the murmurers to ignore.
The letter titled “For the Nordic Record,” submitted by Brian Knox and published in the Dec. 23, 2011, edition, contains factual inaccuracies that we would like to address here.
The Town of Mammoth Lakes—not MLTPA—has submitted a Measure R application for a multi-year funding commitment supporting a cooperative effort between the Town and the Inyo National Forest to establish and maintain the Mammoth Lakes Trail System (MLTS).
Next Tuesday, the Mono County Board of Supervisors will be asked to support a pending House bill that strips some 60 million acres of federal lands from possible wilderness designation, including more than four million acres in California.
Anyone taking in the impressive vistas of the Grand Canyon, or awed by the towering majesty of the Statue of Liberty, can attest to the natural and historic value before them. Ever wonder what our country would be like if these icons had not been preserved for public enjoyment and the benefit of future generations? Fortunately, the power of the Antiquities Act to designate these lands as National Monuments has protected these jewels for posterity.
COLDER, WETTER, LONGER WINTERS
I could not help but laugh at “Sierra Could Be Hit Hard by Climate Change,” (Mammoth Times, May 13, 2011) as I looked out my window at still bud-less trees and a snowpack almost four times normal. Science use to be based on definite observation and facts which were either true or false. Now it’s “could, might, maybe, if.” And no wonder. Anyone who pays attention to the weather lately might think winters were getting colder around here, not warmer. And they would be correct.

All of our patrons were so gracious to our guest artists and made them feel at home in Mammoth. From Beau Bridges and his family to Gail Matthius and her improv group, everyone who performed at Edison Theatre is excited to return.
Fireworks at Crowley Lake need to stay

I would hope that the Town finds the funds to continue the long and cherished tradition of the Crowley Lake fireworks on the 4th of July.
