Jill Kinmont Boothe, the former ski champion from Bishop whose life story inspired two Hollywood films, died Thursday in Carson City.
She was 75.
The Sierra Nevada Aquatic Research Laboratory (SNARL) this week announced its 2012 Lecture Series.

The free lectures are a staple of early summer in Mammoth. They are at the Green Church on Benton Crossing Road and U.S. 395.
The series schedule, released by Leslie Dawson, is as follows:

Two local men were arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon last week, after another person was severely beaten during a fight. A female juvenile was also arrested and booked on suspicion of “criminal threats” and “conspiracy”.
February 6th
Inyo County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 51-year-old Bishop man last Friday on charges of “lewd and lascivious acts with a child under the age of 14.
Richard Ferrell Andreas was transported to the Inyo County Jail, where he is currently is being held on $100,000 bail.

The nightmares for John Williamson and Amy Steinwand will probably never really go away.

But the knife-edge of them—the sting of them—is beginning to recede.
Eighteen months after the worst traffic accident in Inyo County’s history claimed the lives of four people and injured more than a dozen more, Bishop residents Williamson and Steinwand were honored last Saturday for their heroic and horrifying work.
