There was a time, back in the boom years, when the Mammoth Lakes town offices were crowded with staffers sizing up every new wrinkle in town.
The Tioga Pass Gate on S.R. 120 was closed to vehicles last weekend, but not to cyclists, and members of Mammoth’s Eastside Velo Club took full advantage. Sadly, that beautiful ride is about to come to an end. Cars, RVs, pickups and the other motorists start heading into the park on Monday. …

The best of Wednesday’s 6 p.m. Town Council meeting is the last item on its agenda.
That’s just one indicator of the interest the public may have in the town’s ongoing fiscal situation, from its projected budget shortfalls to the impact of the $42 million Mammoth Lakes Land Acquisition judgment.
Mono County District Attorney George Booth announced he will retire at the end of June in a letter addressed to the five county supervisors dated April 19.
Booth has served the county as either a Mono County Deputy District Attorney, Assistant District Attorney or District Attorney, for 27 years.
