John Paul Chaufan Field, the missing hiker in Yosemite National Park, has
been found safe and in good condition. He was spotted by the park’s
contract helicopter at approximately 3:15 p.m. Monday afternoon near Edith
Lake, approximately five miles east of Kibbie Lake, the point where he was
last seen.
Once Chaufan Field was spotted by the helicopter, Yosemite National Park
Rangers contacted him and found him to be unharmed and in good health. He
is currently being transported from the backcountry to the Hetch Hetchy
Ranger Station.
In early April, the District Attorney’s Office was alerted to an allegation of misappropriation of funds from the Bridgeport Public Utility District.
The District Attorney’s Office opened an investigation which revealed that former General Manager Cheryl Goode issued herself numerous unsubstantiated payments.
An arrest warrant charging misappropriation of public funds was sought, and on May 17, Goode turned herself in at the Mono County Jail.
Yosemite National Park is searching for John Paul Chaufan Field, 22, a college student who is attending the University of California at Santa Cruz (UCSC).
Chaufan Field was last seen near Kibbie Lake in the Hetch Hetchy area of northwestern Yosemite National Park. Â He was last seen on Saturday, May 19, where he was on a backpacking trip with a group of
fellow students from UCSC, who were conducting an outdoor recreation trip.
The UCSC group began their backpacking trip from Cherry Lake on Friday, May
18, and set up camp near Kibbie Lake that evening. Â At approximately 11
Mammoth has somewhat of a shortage in commissioners in the planning, recreation and transportation areas, and time is running on candidates.
On July 31, three terms of office will become vacant on the Planning Commission; four terms will become vacant on the Recreation Commission, and two terms of office will become vacant on the newly formed Transportation Commission.
These terms of appointment are for four years and expire on July 31, 2016.
One vacancy on the Recreation Commission is for an unexpired term, and that one appointment will expire on July 31, 2014.
The National Weather Service declared a "Red Flag" wind warning for this afternoon through Tuesday afternoon, but that isn't what had everybody talking.
The weather service also called for snow on Friday and Friday evening, with accumulations of up to two inches. The weather service forecast a "slight chance" of snow for Saturday as the last of a cold front moves over the mountains.
Now in the final stages of the permitting process with the Town and the Forest Service, the Gateway Community Project will be breaking ground soon, said project coordinator Elizabeth Tenney.
She said the Gateway Group anticipates completion well before the snow flies.

Election Day is Tuesday, June 5.
