Snowfall was down this holiday season at most western mountain resorts but actual occupancy among participating resorts was up 1.3 percent compared to December 2010, when many western destinations were enjoying near-record snowfall and early season conditions.

Tim Alpers announces he will run for Bauer's county supervisor seat

Tim Alpers announced today that he will vie with incumbent Vikki Bauer for the Mono County District 3 Supervisor seat. District 3 includes part of Mammoth Lakes,and the communities of Lee Vining, June Lake and points north to Conway Summit.

Bourne's contract terminated, more charges for both Walker, Bourne, expected

Dr. Andrew Bourne's contract with Mammoth Hospital has been terminated, according to spokeswoman Lori Ciccarrelli, "because he cannot fulfill its terms at this time."

Tioga Road to close tonight (Tuesday)

January 17, 2012

The Tioga Road in Yosemite National Park will close at 7 p.m. this evening,Tuesday, Jan.17, park officials said.
 

“A series of wet weather systems, with the possibility of heavy snow at the higher elevations, are predicated over the next several days,” said Kari Cobb, Yosemite spokesperson.
 

“This possible precipitation, coupled with cold temperatures, will result in hazardous driving conditions on the road.”
 

Big 'Welcome Home' party for Keflezighi Tuesday evening

Mammoth will throw a “WELCOME HOME” party for Olympian Meb Keflezighi this evening at the Village, according to the Mammoth Visitors Bureau.

Bourne, Walker, free on $750,000 bail in child sex case, Bourne resigns from school board

January 14, 2012

Bail was reduced from $1 million each to $750,000 each for Dr. Andrew Bourne and Joe Walker Tuesday at a hearing in Santa Barbara.

It was the smoke alarm shrieking into the deepest hours of the night that woke eight-year-old Hana MacLean of Mammoth Lakes and probably saved her life.
 
It was Hana, though, who likely saved her parents lives shortly thereafter.
 
It was sometime around midnight on Jan. 10 and Mammoth was fast asleep, including Hana.
