Bishop was rocking and rolling Wednesday, with three earthquakes in a row: a 3.5 at about 7 p.m., a 3.1 at 4: 40 and a 2.5 at about 8 p.m. The quakes were only a few miles from Bishop, in the Laws area, meaning Bishopites certainly noticed them, although no serious damage was reported. ...
That was some Town Council meeting on Wednesday. Nothing on the agenda, nobody in the audience save for an MT staffer, nobody offering public comments. It was the Pledge of Allegiance, then a closed session with the new interim town manager. Like covering vapor. ...

Spiking gas prices should not affect Mammoth’s summer tourism as much as many might think, says Mammoth’s Tourism Director, John Urdi.
“It’s not a deal breaker,” he said.
Average retail gasoline prices in California rose 17.5 cents a gallon in one week, averaging $3.72 on Monday, Feb. 28, according to gasoline price website CaliforniaGasPrices.com.
In Mammoth, Lee Vining and Bridgeport, gas prices were well above $4 a gallon and still rising. On Thursday in Mammoth Chevron’s regular was at $4.39 a gallon.

The Ranch Road Peace Accords got another piece of reinforcement this week.
Five years after homeowners on Ranch Road and backcountry enthusiasts clashed over egress from the mountains, the Mammoth Lakes Trails and Public Access Foundation announced that new signs are in the ground, guiding skiers and snowboarders to the public access easement at the Ranch Road Gate.
Much of the route runs on top of Snowcreek Golf Course, which two years ago placed directional signs on the route as a result of Snowcreek VIII Master Development Plan.
The Ranch Road war was over.

The Mammoth daycare provider arrested in October for sexually abusing at least four children in his care, Lupe Almaguer, was expected to face a judge March 8, but that sentenceing will “likely be continued” according to Mono County Deputy District attorney Todd Graham said Thursday.
The sentencing was originally set for Feb. 15 but was continued to March 8 and, as of Thursday, looks to be continued again.
Almaguer, 56, pled guilty to several counts of felony child molestation in December 2010.
He was arrested in October 2010 after an investigation.

Ed Armenta, who spent his youth in Southern California and hiked, fished and camped in the Eastern Sierra, is coming home to the Inyo National Forest.
This time, it is as its new supervisor, replacing Jim Upchurch, who left last October.
“It has been a lifelong dream to live and work in the Eastern Sierra,” Armenta said in a press release Tuesday afternoon.
“I am delighted to have been selected as the supervisor of one of the most beautiful national forests in the nation, with the huge abundance of recreation opportunities that it offers.”
