A Bishop man was found safe, after a search was called in the Reds Meadow area yesterday.
On the morning of Feb. 23 the Mono County Sheriff Search and Rescue (SAR) Team was called out to check on the welfare of an overdue snowshoer.
Michael Gaffney, 47, of Bishop, began a snowshoeing trip on Tuesday, Feb. 22, from the Mammoth Lakes Basin to Reds Meadow to Mammoth Mountain Main Lodge. He intended his trip to be relatively non-stop, without a planned camp.
On Wednesday, Feb. 23 at approximately 7:30 a.m., Mono County Sheriffâ€™s Department deputies stopped a vehicle with no license plates and no displayed temporary registration paperwork traveling northbound on U.S. 395 north of Bridgeport.
The deputy made contact with the two individuals inside of the vehicle, identified as Rae Dean Anderson, 42, of Sun Valley, Nev., and Dennis Shay,34, of Winnemucca, Nev. They stated they were traveling from Mexico to the Reno area.
The Mammoth Lakes Town Council reconvened from closed session on Wednesday, Feb. 23 and announced that they had appointed Marianna Marysheva-Martinez as the Interim Town manager for the Town of Mammoth Lakes.
Ms. Marysheva-Martinez begins her employment with the Town of Mammoth Lakes on March 2, 2011 pending the execution of the employment contract by Mayor Skip Harvey and review by the Town attorney.
