A Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team for the Round Fire has been formed. The team is working to complete its assessment and recommendations to lessen immediate hazards to public resources and downstream private land from effects of the fire.

Swall Meadows residents are probably going to have to wait at least a few more days to get back to their homes and property to assess the damage and take care of their property and possibly, pets left behind, due to a fire that is still burning and due to venting propane lines and other hazards, according to Mono County emergency shelter workers stationed at the Crowley Lake Community Center, tonight Feb. 8.

Local smoke possible from prescribed burns

The Mammoth and Mono Lake Ranger Districts of the Inyo National Forest are planning to continue several prescribed fire projects for habitat improvement and hazardous fuels reduction. Fire crews are taking advantage of recent precipitation that has provided safe and favorable burning conditions.

The Aqueduct Prescribed Fire is planned to begin either Thursday, Feb. 5 or Friday, Feb. 6; conditions permitting.

It should take two days to complete.

This 120-acre project in the Jeffrey pine forest is east of U.S. 395 near Bald Mountain (northeast of Deadman Summit).

The Mammoth Lakes Police-Community Hispanic Advisory Committee (MLPCHAC) has scheduled its ninth Town Hall meeting for Thursday, March 19 at 5 pm in the Emerald Room at the Grand Sierra Lodge, 1111 Forest Trail.
Refreshments, childcare, and interpreters will be provided.

Move over.becasued the pros are all in town for the U.S. Grand Prix—a top tier snowboarding and freeskiing event featuring both halfpipe and slopestyle competitions.

It is ongoing, February 4-7, with the top U.S. Snowboarders and Freeskiers ready to take on the Super Duper Halfpipe, among other Slopestyle featrues.

No surprise; Yosemite hikes entrance, camping fees

As expected, Yosemite National Park announced last week that entrance fees and campground fees will increase beginning March 1.

The new fee structure includes modifications to the October 2014 draft proposal based on public input.

During the civic engagement period, the park received 2,430 e-mails in response to the proposal, 1,222 comments on the park’s Facebook page, and 16 mailed letters, park officials said.
