Yet when the local cinemas are only playing R-rated thrillers and Oscar-bait dramas—and every television show seems forensics-based—it’s nice to get out of the house and visit the Edison Theatre—a place where the seats are comfy and the sweet comedy of Lend Me A Tenor keeps the laughs going.

Among the many treasures of Mammoth is the Valentine Reserve, a patch of forest reserved for research by University of California, Santa Barbara, and visiting academics.
 
It’s normally closed to the public, but every now and then, the reserve opens its gates for entertaining walks and talks.
 
This season’s schedule was announced last week by Leslie Dawson, the education coordinator at the reserve.

Gifted Summer Program Scholarships available for Mammoth students

The National Society for the Gifted and Talented (NSGT) is offering $10,000 in scholarships for Mammoth Lakes area students to apply toward selected summer programs. Several scholarships are being offered by the society: six at $1,000 each, six at $500 each, and four at $250 each. The scholarships can be used by the student to help pay tuition for a gifted summer program of their choice.
