Yosemite National Park is searching for John Paul Chaufan Field, 22, a college student who is attending the University of California at Santa Cruz (UCSC).
Chaufan Field was last seen near Kibbie Lake in the Hetch Hetchy area of northwestern Yosemite National Park. Â He was last seen on Saturday, May 19, where he was on a backpacking trip with a group of
fellow students from UCSC, who were conducting an outdoor recreation trip.
The UCSC group began their backpacking trip from Cherry Lake on Friday, May
18, and set up camp near Kibbie Lake that evening. Â At approximately 11
Mammoth has somewhat of a shortage in commissioners in the planning, recreation and transportation areas, and time is running on candidates.
On July 31, three terms of office will become vacant on the Planning Commission; four terms will become vacant on the Recreation Commission, and two terms of office will become vacant on the newly formed Transportation Commission.
These terms of appointment are for four years and expire on July 31, 2016.
One vacancy on the Recreation Commission is for an unexpired term, and that one appointment will expire on July 31, 2014.
The National Weather Service declared a "Red Flag" wind warning for this afternoon through Tuesday afternoon, but that isn't what had everybody talking.
The weather service also called for snow on Friday and Friday evening, with accumulations of up to two inches. The weather service forecast a "slight chance" of snow for Saturday as the last of a cold front moves over the mountains.
Now in the final stages of the permitting process with the Town and the Forest Service, the Gateway Community Project will be breaking ground soon, said project coordinator Elizabeth Tenney.
She said the Gateway Group anticipates completion well before the snow flies.
Businesses, residents and second homeowners who want to commemorate their strong attachment to Mammoth still have time to order a laser-inscribed personal brick paver or cast bronze legacy plaque.
If you want to vote by mail in the upcoming election, the deadline to submit your application is Tuesday, May 29, according to Lynda Roberts, the Mono County Registrar Voters.
Voters can request an application by calling 760-932-5534 or 760-932-5537. The application is also online at monocounty.ca.gov/departments/elections/elections.html.
Election Day is Tuesday, June 5.

The smell of garbage has already come between the recent “Kumbaya” talks of cooperation and working together for the Town of Mammoth Lakes and Mono County.
A rare and stunning type of solar eclipse will be clearly visible this Sunday night when the moon casts a shadow on the sun, resulting in a flaming ring of fire surrounding a darkened sun.
Called an “annular”, or “ring”, eclipse, it will be visible from the Mammoth and northern Eastern Sierra area beginning at about 5:15 Sunday night until 7:40 p.m., with the maximum coverage of the sun at about 6:30 p.m.
It’s the first and last time such an annular eclipse will occur in 18 years, with the last similar eclipse occurring in 1994 and the next projected for 2039.

The Mono County Board of Supervisors Tuesday appointed Assistant District Attorney Tim Kendall to fill the remainder of retiring District Attorney George Booth’s term, which ends in 2014.
Mules have not exactly been red-carpet material, but that may change next week when “Mule Days: The Documentary” premiers in Bishop during the annual hee-haw weekend.
The Annual Book Fair at Mammoth Elementary School will be held May 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
A resident of Mammoth Lakes is in critical but stable condition today, after being flown to Reno last Monday, with word that tests performed at the Nevada State Public Health Laboratory are positive on Thursday.
