The 2010 Mammoth High School Cross Country season is off and running, with two large invitationals under its belt. On Sept. 10, Mammoth traveled to the Whittel Warrior invitational in Zephyr Cove at Lake Tahoe, Calif.
More than 30 high schools came together to compete and see who was “best of the best.” Mammoth only brought seven of its members, but showed the much larger schools they should not be overlooked.
One hundred forty-four players raised $35,000 in support of higher education and cultural enrichment at the sold-out 11th Annual Mammoth Lakes Foundation Golf Classic last Sunday, Sept. 12.
Mammoth Lakes Foundation Scholarship students and South Gateway Student Apartment students were among volunteers at Sierra Star Golf Course supporting the Mammoth Lakes Foundation scholarship fund.
Highlights of the scramble tournament included an iPad raffle, Super Ticket raffle, $5,000 putting contest, silent auction, awards party, and closest-to-the-pin prize on all par threes.

It’ll be some kind of book signing Saturday afternoon, Sept. 25, at the Booky Joint, where John Muir “Jack” Laws not only will sign his swell new guidebook, but also will offer some artistic demonstrations.
Laws will sprinkle how-to demos in illustration, painting and sketching at the event, which starts at one o’clock and ends at 3.
Dave Leonard, owner of the bookstore, said Laws is a very entertaining guest, and for the Booky Joint to have him is a real treat.
He said refreshments will be served during the book signing, but the book is a refreshment in itself.
